about

The meaning and thought behind the latest offering from Filed Fangs is complex

The first thing to consider is enthusiasm in the classical sense, the presence of a divine spark. We spend most of our lives trying to recapture that spark, typically exhibited in childhood.

Depression extinguishes that spark and what is being highlighted here is a form of. 'Conduit' ... back to the electricity that is denied us.

'I was once an enthusiast, it didn't last' is a stark observation in the chorus

'Recovery is expected' a modern phrase implying some kind of optimism.

'Learned optimism', from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, as a counter to 'learned helplessness' which is a blight of society, let alone individuals who suffer with mental health.

The burden of 'lockdown' as a hindrance

Conduit is therefore a paean to overcoming Mental Health issues, the driving motorik beats and arpeggiating rhythmic devices offering enthusiasm for recovery and a route back to the 'spark'.
